I know exactly what you’re talking about lol. I watched the whole anime and it was pretty wholesome until i figured out that they were going for more than familial and i was super disappointed. I kind of freaked out and resolved to never read the manga and let it just remain familial in my mind.

well, the boy she ‘parent’ raised ended up with his childhood friend and had a family of his own. While the parent separated with him, years later came back when the boy now a grandpa was moments aways to his deathbed.
