The pacing is pretty fast, and I'm sure Maxi is spending quite some time with the magician (discussing about the house budget etc etc)
but in latest chapters, we didn't see much interaction of them

I think it was referring to Riftan leaving three years ago. On chapter 14 last panel Max said that today feels like the dawn of three years ago. When Riftan leaves for Dragon escapade. Riftan will only be gone for three weeks. No time skip.
True! They put like 15 chapters of the novel in one of the manwha（￣へ￣）
But most of the interactions between Maxi and the Magician happen when Riftan is out meeting the king so maybe we'll be able to see more of Maxi acting on her own there.
I don't think the scene where the knights chatting is in the novel........ (Or i don't remember, maybe)
