season 1 and 2 don’t show and focus much on the yami but just they’re relationship. most of it is kinda censored too. season 3 has 18+ things so yeah it’s a combination of both

They both start off with the relationship and the issues surrounding it, it's very sweet and as they get more comfortable with each other they show the sex scenes. It's a very sweet transition and I think more bls + yaois should be like this, but every bl and yaoi has its ups and downs.
