You are right ,his reasoning is confusing. He should've talked to her and explain properly rather than just run away like this and still say nothing. Yet i don't feel like Emiel is a good match for her ,to be fair it is weird to start a relationship with a person who took care of you right from your childhood. It's just doesn't work in my head ,he is more of a brother figure for her than a love interest. She just feels safe around him because they have been together for a long time and share wanderful memories. Idk man ......it's just awful #－.－)
I think so too, it's very self centered decision. He said he wanted to protect estelle and yet he was the first to hurt her then he claims he was doing this for her?. I dont think true and real love is like that no matter how hard or how painful may it be, he could have been more honest., It would have resolved so many problems in the current timeline.

I feel like emel's reason is a bit understandable for me... He's been with estelle for too long and is now anxious whether she truly loved him or she just doesnt know because she grew up being with him for too long but its not understandable that he should push her aside and then just comesback to her to try win her heart all over again it just doesnt sit right...
Estelle deserves more and its true I prefer with the white haired guy but I just can seem to get over emel as well ;-; I mean Ive read this way before quarantine started and I truly loved him with her but the plot just makes it even more hateful but I still adore the story and the characters but not with the bitchy princess that is.
