This is basically the Asura Training Arc on The Beginning After The End which could have gone really good but it was actually damn crap.

Some stories do tournament arcs really well but most of the time they're just cliche and boring. It would've been more interesting if they'd just stuck with the idea where he accidentally hit level 51 and kept leveling but they're probably going to give him a bunch of rewards when he wins.
