Maybe it has something to do also with the kind of readers nowadays...you know those who are thirsty for smuts over plot. Stories with gradual plot development often mislook today. Though some authors spent time in molding characters viewers don't appreciate it or only got bored. Toxic relationship in yaoi manga is popular today because readers find it "new" and "interesting". Especially after Killing Stalking set the bar.
there are those who just want to feed quick tropes and keep readers attention by satisfying those kinda stuff and with nice art and convenient input of romacne and whatnot t get off the feel of toxidity, they make the story memorable a bit....but those who truly take care in really delving into the story they are molding...those stories are what are unforgettable for everyone...be it the perverts or the softie prudes....we all know a few of those here on tis website....even people who don't like romance love them cause they are so realistic within themselves, they intrigue even those people and reach far and wide....some are so good they become classics for centuries even (famous literature books we all know or heard from)....there are people who write for money and those who write for the art...then there are those who are in between so it is hard to tell or admit....nothing wrong with that...or this kind of story like this manga...what is wrong though is for people to act like this story is not like that even though it obiously is, cause they don't wanna admit they love cheap amusement...again nothing wrong with that....not at all....just the hypocricy is annoying...
Stories with this type of storyline are the popular ones, which I think is a huge factor why we see more toxic relationships, esp in yaoi, instead of a slow, healthy one. Hope kids who read this dont think this is hot in real life and go look for those handsome bad boys.
they do though....why you think almost everyone in the world has in one way or another an issue because of their parents? cause their parents staid with a person that they did not mesh well with in reality and how can unhappy parents make their child truly happy and love their child unconditionally like they should? people are stupid. they rather believe in some magical shit that never happens, instead of common sense and facts. a human never ever ever ever changes. no amount of amazing love will change a human. only way a human can change is if they want it and are diligent enough to stick to changing their issues from deeep down upwards slowly rebuilding what was set wrongly....which involves work over a period of time....no one just does this for no reason but selifsh desire....and if they live in a way where they already get all they want without changing their ways, why should they ever consider that they truly are the issue and should change themselves? this toxic fucker here has everything and get everything, even while being a toxic fucker....why should he change? he may go a bit woony for a bit when he gives in to uke in a bit...but after the drug called lovey dovey feelings settle down into a habit, he will resume his toxic fucker behavioural scheme....why should he change? the uke is already his and he didn't leave before when he was even worse, so why would he leave now? stuff like this does not happen consciously always, but subconsciously....why do people love this kinda story? they always did....people love this kinda unrealistic stuff cause they wanna believe they can have it, too. or they wish they would. a love that changes a handsom jerk into a handsome princey boyfriend..WOOOOW...how awesome...pfft as if...if you were to experience this in real life, you would run whit your legs in your hands or be a person insde the known and easily googleable cycle of a toxic abusive relationship....abuse is not only physical...it has many ways...this one here is emotional abuse mostly i would say....

Toxic relationship is a cycle indeed unless one will have the initiative to give up first and move on. In this story I think Jooin is key. If he will continue being a push over nothing will force to Yahwi to change.
Ghad Alex (of BJ Alex) is kinda mf at first too but in their story he made it clear that he only want physical relationship until DG decided to give up. But Yahwi's intention here is so unclear that the readers will only notice his garbage side.
Yeah. Alex would never have changed like he did, if Uke just kept staying with him all swooning over him like he is some God or whatnot. When he realised, that no matter how much Uke loved him, he still left him, cause he was an asshole, he realised that he didn't want to loose that love and that person, so he stopped being a selfish insensitive asshole and started being a human being. A human can always change. We are not solid, we are fluid. We can always be something else, but we need to want to be and put in the effort. Or why else are humans able to play completely different characters and act out so amazingly that we forget they are just acting? Or some actors loose themselves so much in the acting, they forget who they were before (Like Jim Carrey in that one role that completely changed him and made him go into spirituality etc.)....or how people who were criminals who never seemed to have an ounce of empathy become super docile and considerate people after years of prison and thus a lot of time of self reflection in a place where no one knows them and expects nothing of them?....this is all basic shit....but people forget what romance actually was....the origin of the word romance and the original meaning of romance...me as a european who had german literature classes, i know....i consider myself lucky, that our teacher made me realise the crap that i was willingly eating like an idiot before about love, romance etc. and listened more closely to science and ancient knowledge and whatnot and saw what an amazing business romance is haha...anyway...it is sad...how people try to belive in myths to lie to themselves about the sadness of reality, cause they are afraid of facing reality head on and thus the unknown change it might bring to them and their future....that is why only few people break out of all this hallucination and seem "crazy" for many people cause they state facts....anyway....nothing bad in fiction....the problem is why people crave for this kind of story....as much as people want to lie to themselve it is just fiction and they don't believe it or are not affected by it...it is not true...it is not possible logically to not be affected....cause for the brain there is no difference between imagination and reality....so both are stored the same way....only thing that does differenciate between a memory that was made through a fictive situation and a real situation is your conscience, while you remember something....sometimes you even forget when you made what memory....if it was real or if it was imaginary....cause it was so long ago you have to focus to remember where it came from....people over estimate themselves a lot....sadly...anyway...whatever....it won't change the fact that this relationship is toxic and will never be truly happy and that the love they have is tainted and not unconditional....no matter how amazingly the author uses the device or romance....romance was never meant to be happy anyway...it has a sad history....anyway...yeah...dunno if anyone would read this essay pfahahah
and just to add....alex changed because it was fiction...that stuff rarely can be applied to reality....only cause the author wanted him to become like that after the break up did he change like that and never repeated the kind of crap he always did before...like magic pff....not realistic sadly :/
authors nowadays love to ship toxic relationships for no reason....there are ones who make sense...this one just seems to try and make it make sense cause they realise it actually does not make sense at all, but they decided in the beginning they want the first ship and now they try to somehow safe it even though everyone already sensed it is fucked up and realistically could not work out....gosh...i hate it when authors do not listen to the story but stubbornly try to force their pre determined red string....real great authors who mastered being an author understand to let go of their ego and go with the flow of the story they created....cause if you are good at telling a story you will realise it can start having an own will and all you do is just write down what it "tells you"....if you read interviews of authors of great masterpieces that is something they kinda all say when they talk about how they came up with this and that...sometimes they also say how they thought it would end up super different but while writing it went into this unexpected direction "because the characters wanted to go there".....sounds creepy, but it has a lot of reason behind it that is to complex to explain....anyway....that is why reading stories like this which has potential, feel so painful....so i drop this...if it ends, i will just look to see if the author may be changed or if my prediction was right....but yeah..bye...hhhhh (cry)
