It seems they're setting Phoenix up to be actually strong, so-

What I hope to see next chapter is every member on that team crushed, and then Phoenix swooping in and showing them the real difference in power. (I don't actually like Phoenix either tho, but since he seems to be written as the MC's equal, at he very least he should be made likable.)

Idk, man, I'm really disappointed right now. I can't see Maid succubus demons as putting up a real legitimate fight... The new member appears to be a girl. Maybe the author is going to show off her power and build up the team's ego? A higher they are, harder they fall scenario?

I like the concept of this story, but it's really boring. Nothing exciting is happening.

Higher they are, harder they fall sounds good to me.

Same here. It's not totally surprising to me though, those guys aren't helpless without MC, they are able to fight to some extent.

Yeah, most definitely within expectation. I guess I was just hoping for something special or something to add impact. This just feels so bland to me so far. However, the new team member was a pleasant surprise. The author could have very well have gone the route of adding another egoist.

Yep, she was definitely refreshing. I do wonder where the plot will go next though. How far in the rankings will they fall?

And Phoenix seemed awfully sure about heros always winning. I don't dislike him a lot, maybe a tiny bit of resentment, but jumping to conclusions like that isn't good. I hope that someone will teach him that that's not how life goes and the heros don't always win.

I feel like the main character's future development is fairly easy to conjecture. He continues to collect more females with which to bond, and more demons to befriend and work with in battle. He will become the unbeatable enigma of the tower all the way to point of the big battle between Phoenix and him, and then Identity Reveal, it was the black mage everyone slept on for so long. He's strong! They misunderstood him! The glory of someone finally receiving credit for all their hard years of work.

Phoenix and his team however, I'm not so sure. I'm big on tropes in which things are pushed to a limit and then the satisfying aftermath. Which I thought the author was going with (the higher they are, the harder they fall), but with the last chapter it seems otherwise. Maybe something more gradual? Nothing instant and gratifying. No one will notice at the beginning; all their flashy powers and gimmicks continue to wow the crowd. The audience won't realize how each battle was difficultly won. The power of editing, as one of the team members had pointed out. Then it starts to shift. The battles continue to increase in difficulty; they no longer can hide it. Someone starts feeling off to the viewers watching, it's different. They question it, and then I suppose maybe their rank will start to fall?

"I don't dislike him a lot, maybe a tiny bit of resentment." Pretty much concludes my impression on him at this point. He doesn't feel like a likable character to me. Sure, he yelled at his team in defense of his friend, but that really did nothing for me. Because the MC is his friend, the team has decided he's not allowed to defend him? That he's deluded? That says to me that he's not actually the leader of the team due to some unified sense of trust, but simply because of the power he was born with. I want his character to develop more. I want him to grow and not stay stagnant. That's my hope.

For the heroes always win comment, if you don't mind a maybe spoiler-

I read in it in the comments. It was mentioned in the novel that the MC has said that to Phoenix when they were just children, and he has held it close to his heart. If that's true, certainly it's a naïve outlook, but it's definitely cute at least.

Sounds about right. Actually, the mask slowly cracking isn't so bad either. I'd like to see them scrambling to cover everything. Maybe a bit sadistic of me but eh, humans suck in that way and I'm no different.

Makes sense. The team would trust Phoenix more if he were a better leader, them only following him because he has power fits. If he doesn't grow, he'll just be an annoying childhood friend, but if he does, I'll certainly look forward to the fight that's bound to happen.

Naive indeed, but it's true that it's cute. I do hope that despite it's what his friend said that he realizes differently.

"...the mask slowly cracking..." Good metaphor. I wouldn't mind that either. But, is it sadism or simply wanting justice? The MC is someone that has worked hard his whole, but due to something he was born with, he's been looked down on and discredited. I think it's only natural as humans that we want to see a righteous ending for such a character.

    Totally agree!

A small sappy part of me however is hoping that when he references heroes, he is including the MC as well, for in his heart he's always seen the MC as his own personal hero. (❀╹◡╹)

Dunno, could be both. It's certainly true that I want people to notice just how capable our MC is.

Ohh, that would be absolutely adorable. Unfortunately, we all must grow, albeit in different ways. Still, it would be cute to see him holding to that last bit and being proud of MC for becoming a hero as he wanted.
