Oh that makes sense! Also, I think leticia never said he was pretty/handsome because he will die id hw finds out(?) his beauty is a secret, it like a curse ( An information I gathered based on the chapter where leticia almost said he was handsome)
if you see the chapter where leticia saw his face for the first time you could see she couldn't properly comprehend her thoughts of "you are handsome as f**k dude" to him as she ended up being given the "warning" from whoever those guys are and telling them about the curse so yah :<
I think maybe erden can't see what he really looks like because of his curse, so he might only see a hideous face when he looks in mirrors and stuff
