I didn't see it as him doing the bare minimum. Like he knows he screwed up and could have easily said well ya let's blame it on the drugs then left it at that, but nah he was like yo I did something horrible and I'm not going to sweep it under the rug. Someone send apparently he continues to blame himself too which is pretty sad.
