To me it’s not even a hunch anymore. When he thinks of her he uses she/her pronouns, which might be because of translation but there’s also that explanation of how they took her clothes off and that he got out of the room when the countess cut off her dress. If he thought she was a man he wouldn’t have felt the need to leave.I’m really sus of this man （￣へ￣）
