Actually that's a good idea. I thought I was the only one who wanted to rewrite it.
For those people who think Joel and Chase relationship was ok... because Chase was already and adult. Think about it....how would you feel if your own parents start dating your classmates and friends. Would you still feel ok? Not trying to spread hate though. But still...the author clearly wants us to have mixed feelings...so far He/she did great in making me feel uncomfortable lol.
