maybe iliyan's dad and james were lovers and he made the statue when they were together. the dad probably left james because he was from a wealthy family and had an image to maintain (we saw how he treated his bastard son). THATS why he was making that disgusted face that's burned into iliyan's mind. he watched his ex publicly kiss his son.
