There is a good chunk of the story that's like main couple + love rival (mostly just persistent and hopeless), but eventually the love rival backs off and he has his own love interest now. And it's all kind of intertwined with an overarching narrative so it's not /just/ romance there's intrigue and stuff.
And like the two comments before me said -- there's one chapter ur probably gonna want to skip but once you get over that hurdle I think you'll enjoy the story a lot more
