The whole time reading this I was thinking that this story feels like one that you would hear a baby gay tell when they are talking about their toxic ex who was their first lover and manipulated him a lot and lowkey forced him into things and later when he finds an actual loving partner he thinks back on this first relationship he realizes the ex was an asshole and kinda fucked up him up mentally.

This is an apocalypse story ofc we can’t judge characters based on modern morals. Everyone there did what they had to do to live. Is the mc unhinged a little? Yes.
But also the mc for lack of better words has a bare understanding of right from wrong especially in terms with our modern thinking. He’s not educated as an average adult person would be. The whole teacher part shows that he knows he doesn’t know things others should at his age but he is clearly trying to become better. He’s not a bad guy he quite literally doesn’t know if his actions are wrong or right cus no one corrects him.
Mc knowing ML can and will correct him and bringing him there for that reason is how we know MC is a green flag.
