it's common in asian household

Yep literally all over Asia...I still need permission to go see friends that I rarely meet up with, or even to go out to the shops

asian households are like that. it's actually pretty common for kids to stay in the family home until they're married. some households are even built to be multi generational.

So true. I had to be financially capable and stable before I got to move out. Still gets monthly visits to make sure I'm getting by like a proper human being in society or else I'll be made to move bavk home. Asian parents are no joke especially if they're the strict type

It's not just bec it's an Asian household thing. Tbh, doesnt matter which household you are. You need to ask permission if you live with someone. If someone is living with me whether relative/friend, and especially people around them knows, I would require them to ask permission and tell me where theyre going before I allow them to move out. When they live with me theyre my responsibility and I have to make sure where theyre going is somewhere safe coz whatever happens to them ofc I'll feel responsible deep inside me. Just bec youre an adult that gives you the do whatever I want card. You can be an adult and still make not so good decisions and you're lucky if someone's responsible for you.

I'm asian and married but when I'm staying at my parents house visiting, my mom still expect me to tell them where I'm going and will pester not to be outside late at night when I'm out w/ friends. Its annoying

As everyone else has said, it is common in Asian households to ask for permission. But the truth is even if you ask permission, if the family treat you and view you as an adult, they won't "deny" your request, they'll just ask if you're truly prepared and ask you for your plans. What happened here isn't exactly common unless your family has bad boundary/trust issues with you and your ability to take care of yourself.
