I was so uncomfy when Dev raped Rowell like I get that he's desperate but raping the one who saved you is so fucking upsetting ugh— is consent literally non existent? Just because it's fiction doesn't mean it's morally right.

It's no moral but most yaoi authors are greatly influenced by their rape kink. Like.....wether it's the main seme or an antagonist, rape/sexual harrassment is dominating the yaoiverse. And making a story about rape isn't morally wrong, but i think it's just bad taste IF it was meant to be a romance story.

Yes I agree if the main genre is romance and if the author depicted rape as romantic then that ain't it , but if it's part of the plot like a tragic back story then it'll be ok I guess.
I am just very repulsed by the idea of rape in general , and it doesn't help that most yaoi's have rape in them but still I read them for the sake of some kind of redemption arc ,character development or even some kind of plot device idk.

I think that rape overall shouldnt be in a romance story though. Wether its a backstory or *part of the plot*.
Small sexual harrassment is acceptable, or an attempt of rape(like he tries something but is stopped before doing anything) IF ITS DEALT SERIOUSLY(which barely ever happens). But that never happens because the authors WANTS their MC to be raped even if it makes the story very stupid. Either : the MC being retarded and falls into an obvious rape situation or the usual antagonist "i love him so lets rape him" or the antagonists who are like "ok lets rape the MC as if its not a serious crime, seems pretty usual and nothing to be afraid of".
Anyway, my point is : it shouldnt have its place in a story that focus on romance. No matter what. Though if the story is meant for sex scenes, go wild.
