the biggest difference between yaoi and shounen ai is that yaoi has explicit sex scenes in it and shounen ai has very little/mild to no sex scenes.
Exactly what sushi said. You really shouldn't label all BL-novels/manga/anime as "yaoi" willy-nilly because that tells everyone before opening the cover or pressing play that there's gonna be explicit sex scenes in it.
