I like how realistically portrayed the couples were when they're out working. Like when one partner has a job and the other has one too and then they end up missing each other in both sense. As someone who's in the same situation, I can really relate.

I kind of see why the author decided to drop the first couple. To me, they seemed a little forced? (I don't think forced is the right term)
