Clearly, the author wanted to be somehow realistic but they didn’t explore the theme further which could’ve been achieved had the characters talk and have reconciliation and possibly go their separate ways. But then again, it’s a world of FICTION. Anything can happen… it’s just sad and irritating that grape is being ‘normalized’ and ‘justified’ just cuz it’s fictional.
