Someone already explained but here I go so yes iris is the heir to the forest she is the legitimate blood of the forests which is her mother's family but she is also the heir to the dukedom since she is the Dukes daughter SPOILERS READ IF YOU WANT!!!!!!! So iris is gonna become empress which is already pretty much clear in the story and she cuts her hair as a sign of new beginning and that she's letting go of the past.
