from what i read at novelupdates, pauliana became the guard for the wives, and she became friends with them, especially rebecca (the mother of the princess). the emperor and miss paul got together or even when they had the one night stand, the three wives are out of the picture(?). and then miss paul left after the one night stand. jumping from that, apparently the emperor had to court(?) pauliana for her love, despite having them having children and all. they didn't get married until the law for women to retain their name after marraige is passed. so they're basically dating before the law happened.
i just relied on the spoiler from novelupdates. at least this is based from the novels, i don't really know about webtoon spoilers.(=・ω・=)

i haven't read the novel, please take it with a grain of salt. i just read the spoiler for the novel. rebecca is one of the wives of the emperor, she gave birth to a princess named lumine and died. miss paul had a son named jared with the emperor. apparently, the princess will inherit the throne and then the son will inherit miss paul's title. that's what i read.

Ok hold on hold on....what? The emperor will have a harem?!?!?!?!
Seriously????
Where is this story headed I love it so far omg.
Come to think of it he does casually say miss Paul become a part of my harem in his head once but I didn't think he'd have 3 other wives?
Miss Paul would have been better off with sir Donau then tch.

He had to marry the 3 wives because the nobles were forcing him. It was his duty to have an heir. Also, after conquering the whole continent, he needed to unify the different kingdoms, and the simplest was to get wives from each territory.
It's not because he just wanted to, it's his duty.
Also, all of the three wives either died or got divorced so when Pauliana did marry the Emperor, he didn't have a wife

with how the societal and political stuff are given emphasis, it's no wonder that there are development like that. yes, it's sad. nonetheless, let's appreciate how the story is sticking to its reality. if you can't read it for how it is, then drop it. if you would appreciate reading how it all will go, i suggest reading it still. it's frustrating to see how women are being treated in the reality of the story. so, i want to read how the emperor could fix the issues as the ruler. reform takes time. i just think this isn't a read for you if you like stories that is untrue to its reality. tbh, the manga is toned down, some things are omitted and are changed. try reading the future developments while minding the situation. so yeah thank you for reading. i would feel bad for miss paul if the emperor were to pursue her. imagine what the people would call her. imagine that she could lose the name she gained, the job she likes. if pursuing her could cause political conflict, i could already tell that miss paul would feel burdened and guilty. that's why i appreciate that the emperor didn't. don't feel bad for miss paul during this time, she doesn't even have romantic feelings for the emperor yet. rather feel bad if miss paul's achievements were downplayed because the emperor pursued her when women, if put in a situation, are at the disadvantage. ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
the three wives thing is a political move, treat it as it is. conceiving a baby could be /deemed/ as a duty of the queens. so i feel bad for the queens. they are considered as chess pieces. and if the emperor wouldn't cooperate, then the wives will have a hard time.( ̄へ ̄)
please don't hate, it's just my opinion. don't take it too seriously considering i have limited knowledge about monarchy and all that, and most of the mangas or manhwas i read barely tackled politics or they just use politics lightly for conflicts. ( ̄ε(# ̄)Σ

i get so frustrated reading them ┗( T﹏T )┛
