From my understanding it’s because he thinks Theo is like better than him or smth, that Nora is a troublemaker, etc. I don’t know if I’m right cus that’s just my understanding of it, I’m sure novel readers could give a more in depth explanation or smth.

I read somewhere that one of the reasons why the duke is harsh on nora and adore the crown prince is because the prince reminded him of his first love the late queen which is the mother of the crown prince and the second one is that the late queen request the duke to take care of her son before she died.
