tsundere is a word of japanese origin.
roughly, tsun means aloof and dere means loving (again, not 100% literal translation). it refers to a character who seems rude/cold/aloof/combative at first but has a softer/gentler/more loving side to them. tsundere and yandere (the duke fits this actually) are pretty well known tropes especially in anime/manga.
