I think it’s okay to read stories with toxic characters. And it’s okay to like those stories. If every character was progressive and open minded and went to therapy there wouldn’t be a story to tell. Every story needs a villain. A good villain isn’t going to be politically correct unless the world is reversed. Also those stories are important because they are cathartic. I’ve recently read another story where the main characters were « perfect » and it was extremely boring. It ended after a couple of chapters. The only conflict the author could add was miscommunication and that can only last for a while… or they’d bring a new character that’d exist just to be hated and used as a jealousy tool, it’s just silly and unrealistic. And ultimately if so many people are upset about those toxic leads in yaoi mangas then maybe they need to get to writing themselves because you can’t force someone to be inspired by concepts they don’t find interesting.
