ok so I haven’t touched this manga in a hot second BUT I HAVE been reading the novels and it’s literally crazy how different they are like there was no arts festival or summer retreat in the novel and the way that certain characters come into the story are also wayyy different (for example rosette. She DOES NOT try to bribe Violette for her silence for one thing nor does the prince ever actually come up in convos between them they’re just purely friends and very cute ones). Also the manga has no business being nice to maryjune like this. No business at all.
but one thing I’m definitely unsatisfied about is how the manga is treating her family issues because hhholy shit does it not even TOUCH the depravity and absolute cruelty that she had to live with for so long.
Like. They brush over the fact that Violette was raised a boy and that her mom was projecting her father onto her and that’s bad, that’s already awful, but it doesn’t even show the full extent of how bad it was. She was like /basically/ being sexually abused/molested by her mother as a child because of her resemblance to her shit sperm donor. Her dad’s awful yes but the one who truly fucked up the poor girl to the point where even now she’s got horrible body dysmorphia AND gender dysphoria. On top of so many other issues.
As for her father, don’t worry the author herself said in one of the author’s notes “Forgiveness was never on the table in the first place” thankfully unlike the writers of a lot of other similar plots in japanese manga/light novels I get the impression she’s much more aware of matters around abuse and the like. There will be no redemption for him (actually, as of volume 4 of the LN he’s gotten his just desserts in the best way possible from the least likely suspect).
Speaking of which, y’all will NOT believe who the last boss is! In retrospect it makes sense but damn is the reveal and That MomentTM specifically quite surprising.
Also don’t worry Yulan is endgame like expediating an engagement behind ShitSperm’s back endgame!! Also the prince is meh. But unlike the manga which seems to be pushing for a surprise turn around in the novel Violette and Claudia actually mutually agree to put their past behind them /and/ Claudia is officially engaged to Rosette (the author apparently has plans for romance between them so we’ll see how that goes).
Not to mention ohhhh he puts maryjune in her place. Violette puts maryjune in her place once more too. Even [REDACTED] puts maryjune in her place which was hilarious. How is this girl so brainlessly selfish is a question for her parents.
Not Takuto’s footprints abruptly cutting off-
love how this chapter was like “we’ll give you a beautiful break from the kids’ plot lines and then destroy you in the last couple pages”
I also wish he stayed chubby but ngl I appreciate that they actually laid down a proper foundation for this instead of just going like ~he *magically* lost weight doing exercise he’s not used to~ like yachiro being an ex-athlete (& like, pretty hardcore from the sounds of it bc what do you mean he was toting around bodybuilders for training??) who’s basically recovering from the depressive episode that his accident sent him into is very realistic! Just, it would have been nice to let him keep a little of that…
also I get drawing is hard but who the fuck does sous vide in a convection oven where is the POT
So. The thing about this manga is that it was scheduled to have a volume release in December and that is now very much not happening because it turns out the mangaka copied the eating scenes from a couple of other manga, most notably meshinuma
here’s a twitter thread with some of the comparisons: https://twitter .com/d9yyg0vgr226224/status/1725311697324474853?s=61

well lmao it’s more like manipulate manslaughter abduction but yn
I’m only partially through the novel rn but it’s already really obvious they switched around scenes and messed up the pacing quite a bit…more importantly though they cut a bunch of stuff, the most important being that Jin Kang actually didn’t run that background check at the cafe, he actually did it right after he got back from their first dinner date, and like literally the first thing he did was cyber stalk Seo Yiyeon all the from the hotel to his home via cctv footage soooooo
in any case the progression of their relationship definitely feels a lot more natural in the novel idk why they rushed things so much for the webtoon ( ̄へ ̄)This goes for both their irl and online (black & lrot for now, I’m excited for VX reveal when it happens) relationship
also I find it kinda funny that people don’t like how Yiyeon is acting as ‘black’ when they included a whole a blurb about how normal behavior standards don’t apply to crackers; Jin Kang might find him annoying but he 1000% has dealt with much worse as lrot (not to mention as crackers they have the ability to do so much worse and be infinitely more invasive so the fact that ‘black’ respected basic boundaries and only went after lrot when he was cracking into other peoples’ shit says a lot)
and to those worried Seo Yiyeon might also be Broker B: don’t be, his little L is his treasure and they (all of ZETA) had no idea why lrot dropped off the map at that time
lmaooo the group chat had me in stitches that’s an /incredible/ level of transparency
the title’s hella misleading though it’s not like the man’s in a serious monogamous relationship or anything and clearly if they have a group chat then everyone’s more or less on the same page (I legit thought it was going be actual cheating and was prepared to dip)
that said while I know the… reasoning behind it I’m still very *sideeye* at how militantly puritanical some people get about wanting characters to be celibate if they have feelings for someone like?? alright chill bro it’s definitely one thing if these guys are going into long term (romantic, monogamous) serious relationships w/ someone not the object of their affection without laying out all the terms and conditions but most of them are just having light flings or casual sex? chill.
Just came back from the novel (I’m like…almost halfway through? but planning on taking a break ANYWAYS) plz guys keep in mind Sion is a very very unreliable narrator incredibly unreliable esp re: a lot of events in the first life and re: parvellone. you can kinda get a general sense of it already but sion was pretty isolated in his past life! some of that is parvellone’s fault yes but much of it was actually sion’s own doing as well which is why you’re not going to learn things like the international political situation or

Or the fact that Parvellone motherfucking cut off his own damn left hand (the one with the stigma on it) and sent it in a box of salt to actual!Siennas as a last ditch effort to try and end the pointless bloodshed (it doesn’t work) OR THE FACT THAT HE REMEMBERS EVERYTHING
Also, more importantly poor Sion was actually right on the number about Parvellone’s affection towards him it was just needlessly complicated by God (shaking my fists here) and Parvellone’s position/duty as the Angel of Destruction. Basically Parvellone’s mindset is that he is a tool of God and his ultimate duty is awaken the true bearer of St. Zeon’s stigma (aka Sion) and the only way to do so…is to die. So that entire time, he tried (and failed, spectacularly) not to get too close to Sion because he’d just end up leaving him anyways. Except. Well, as Parvellone puts it, it’s much easier to get caught up in faith towards something tangible compared to something up in the air. At some point, rather than being God’s faithful tool…he just wanted to be Sion’s. And that was where everything went wrong.
Parvellone, in Sion’s memory is this figure who’s incapable of failure, or something close to it, but that couldn’t be further from the truth… he’s just a man who thought he could go against god’s will and in the end doomed himself and everyone around him for it, including the person he treasured the most. Just…so many things went wrong or didn’t work out.
But guess what!! He didn’t abandon Sion, he never thought about that. He knew he would die and so be it, but he just wanted Sion to be happy and he was going to set him up in the neighboring country with a little farm and everything. It was too late, but he came back for Sion. The Grand Temple collapsing? That was all him. Sion wasn’t crushed to death by a falling set of wings btw, Parvellone found him before he died from his injuries, they had their first and last kiss, and then Parvellone basically altered Sion’s memories so that he’d think that version of events things opened up with was real, before killing himself to try and save Sion by awakening his stigma.
Except that isn’t what happens, what happens is Parvellone wakes up to the moment he gained his own stigma after being poisoned, and he despairs, because why would Sion do this? And then there’s more despair waiting to come! Because when he manages to get to the south for “recuperation,” Sion isn’t there. And for the next 15~20 years (no idea how old they are, but they haven’t hit their thirties yet), Sion still hasn’t appeared! All the way up to the coronation, where Parvellone once again finds himself at the mercy of God’s whims.
Because, you see. The stigmas of St. Zeon never appear by themselves, and the one who holds the stigma of the Angel of Destruction can feel it when the true St. Zeon’s stigma is nearby.
Parvellone has known this entire time Sion woke up in Siennas’s body.
Riku and Josh are quite cute as expected of Kitahala-sensei but for once my heart has stolen by a side character
