The reason that Jingeong distance himself from Dongyeon was because Heesoo came back and was asking him if he should confess soon. When Jingeong heard that he was like, oh shit his feelings are real, and backed off. So Jingeong didn't assume for no reason, Heesoo was literally telling Jingeong that he was thinking abt confessing to Dongyeon.
Long story short Heesoo wouldn't have to step aside if u honest with his feelings in the first place
