Right? It’s sad to see that characters like Miroku from inuyasha are still being written as funny hot and lovable. Wtf Japan indeed. They’re still writing these stories with “sexual harassers with hearts of gold”. Like uh you can’t be both. In inuyasha miroku pervs on all the girls, especially kagome at the beginning and inuyasha was always calling him out as a creep and trying to protect kagome from him....and the writers had her take mirokus side! Because somehow inuyasha was in the wrong? For calling a molestor a molestor? All it goes to show is that harassing and assaulting women is still not only accepted but encouraged in Japan. This is why I stopped reading straight romance stories from Japan. They are just too far behind the rest of the world socially for such a developed nation. I tried to get back in thinking things might be different now but they’ve only proven to have made no progress.

I watched Inuyasha as a young girl and its makes me SO mad when I think about how not only this "lets make the molester a charming, funny guy who's only 'joking' and 'doesn't mean any harm' by it" made me take his fucking side back then, but also how the way only Inuyasha/Issei stand up to it (all in good "fun and joke" since the narrative fucking makes it so) perpetuates the fact men shouldn't harass women not because its wrong but because THEIR BOYFRIEND said so. Believe me when I say I've never felt such pure, unadultared rage as I've felt for Winter. I wanted to beat him enough to draw blood for the emotinal IMCOMPETENCE this character has. And I mean it, if you read until chapter 10, it gets much, much worse. However, as story progresses, everything slowly starts to make SENSE, which is why I loved this story, and thinks its a pity translation is messing it up.
I know its hard to believe, but Winston is not fault entirely, and this is really just the result of a very, VERY messed up situation. Wait, hear me out okay? And bear in mind this is just MY interpretation of the facts, and not everything has been made clear yet...

Winston was thrown away by his biological mother as a child, and only managed to survive long enough to reach the Blooming's manor thanks to his knack for business, which is why he only knows how to solve things with money, since it literally saved his life. The opportunistic Blooming couple took advantage of this. Arriving at the manor as a child, starved and mistreated his whole life, Winter was easy prey for that disgusting couple, whom pretty much sold their "affections" for Winter in exchange for the money he started to make. Naively, Winter believed it ( i think it has to do with him only ever knowing how to solve things with money, its like he has no ideia a parent-child relationship isnt supposed to work like this)
So, time skip to present time. Its still not very clear to me why he married her at all. Its implied he fell in love with her. And he never actually blamed her for the shit her brother pulled. Actually, it made him feel even more inferior to her beautiful, princess self. Now he was a man with no title, no heritage and no money. So what does this block head decides to do? Bust his ass off working non-stop to become rich enough so he's finally worthy of her. Its also good to note that the ppl he descends from are heavily prejudiced against in that country, so he has a big complex over that. And yes, this idiot spent 3 years of his life working and never once came to spend time with her, only sending her lots and lots of money and gifts for her, believing that to be enough. But here's where things get interesting. That money never found its way to Violet. Guys, Winston had absolutely no ideia what was happening to Violet, and, story-wise speaking, no way of knowing
It either. Violet resided in the Blooming residence, that fucking couple's house, so in other words, evey single thing that happened there was under their control. Including Violet's budget (they had help from that dipshit brother of hers too).Winter unknowingly placed Violet in a nest of vipers. He trusts them blindly, and they know it.
That said, the amount of emotional imcompetence and naivety winter display is surreal. Believe ot or not, even after the goddamn GUN scene, he remains oblivious to Violets attempts at suicide. On this note, I cant make excuses for him. The thought of her wanting to die is such a foreign, alien ideia to him because in his head she's never really suffered in her life (slavery, starvation, mistreat...), so she has no reason to. The disregard he shows for mental illness is infuriating, and it makes it very fucking hard to empathize with his situation, which is exactly why I think making them switch bodies is such a genius move.
I'm on ch29 and he still hasnt realized Violet tried to kill herself 2 times already, HOWEVER! He's slowly uncovering things, and oh boy, when he realizes what his so called "parents" have done, SHITS GONNA GET REAL YO!
So, if you've read all this, please, give this a chance! Try to find a different translation if possible too lol
