My guess is that each player might have special roles like how they normally might in an actual game. Some are better suited for combat, some for exploring, some for solving puzzles etc.
IIRC, Bada's tape is the one that is currently in the Lodge's cassette player, basically the house they are currently staying at and arrive at each playthrough. Bada might have another tape that is damaged, it would explain why his memory is hazy despite having played previously.
As for your other question, that just might be where the actual game begins. Sometimes there's no perfect beginning, it just drops you in where things start getting spicy.
