I think people have gotten very sensitive about the topic that it doesn’t matter to them the context, even if it’s not being romanticized, they have a knee jerk reaction. Most people understand that rape is a horrible thing to happen, but to act like it should never be talked about just because most BL go the rape fantasy route. That is not the way to go about it. It seems like there was a reason for this to happen in this story. From all the comments I’ve read, it wasn’t romanticized in any way (I’ve barely started reading this story, so I can’t opine on this controversial scene.).
