Then this faction that intended to screw over the MLs relationship with his brother appeared the brothers made up this whole scheme
Plan was pretend to like traitor girl, act like you're planning on marrying her by breaking off engagement with MC, draw out traitors, wipe them out, get back with MC, but then everything goes to shit when MC straight up disappears on him which wasn't in his plans.
