This story is one of the rare masterpieces I've read, showcasing their toxic dynamic filled with misunderstandings and communication issues, along with plenty of angst and insecurities. I loved every bit of it. It all made sense in a way that others haven't. I cried so many times while reading, especially as it vividly portrayed the struggles during the war and the protagonist's hardships and losses of loved ones.
I both love and hate them at the same time. They can be so foolish and insecure, yet their love for each other is undeniable. Despite the way they hurt and destroy one another, I truly hope they can find peace together in Annette's new home. They don’t need to be in love or happy again; their connection transcends words.
I’m a bit disappointed with how they portrayed Robbie. He had so much potential as a friend to the fl. I don’t understand why he chose to trust her sister, especially knowing how FL was treated by her family. I was really hoping they could maintain their friendship and that Robbie would be there to support her. It’s also frustrating that FL didn’t have a meaningful conversation with Robbie, considering everything they’ve experienced together since childhood. Cutting ties like that feels out of place and just plain mean.
