I really hope its a misunderstanding like he got caught with the wrong crowd and they blamed the murder on him. Or maybe he is protecting a family member and made it look like he is the killer.

I think someone else did it, but the policeman was convinced Gusam was guilty and tortured a confession out of him. Somehow he escaped and ran, but now he's a confessed killer (even though he didn't hurt anyone)

It seems likely that he is being framed. Maybe at the most he was at the scene if the crime, but going on the scene of Gusam being tortured maybe the real murderer was behind that and was the one to incriminate Gusam so Gusam is a victim too. It would be interesting if we get to know why Gusam ended up rough sleeping at such a young age, he doesn't reference any family and has managed to "slip through the system" to the extent where he has avoided usually mandatory things like school (wasn't he still a teen when first becoming homeless) and military service. We see how he has been stigmatised for being homeless (the people in the waiting room commenting on his apparent smell) so Suchae has probably been the first person outside of his fellow group of young people who are homeless that has shown him kindness and attention.
