Didn't you pay attention? They were going to kill her child and rather then have him die at the hands of strangers who might make him suffer she chose to kill him quickly and then killed herself. Carcel has clearly been in love with Ines in all three lives the the first two he couldn't be with her so it didn't matter who he slept with so he didn't turn anyone down. In the third she had no feelings for him so he avoided the marriage and slept around trying to deny his love for her. Oscar has been obsessed with her forever and is determined to have her anyway he can. In the second life they were going to marry her off to an old man, his fiance's father, so there would be a reason to have her in the palace available to Oscar. In this current life she will make the same final choice if anything happens to Carcel, she would rather die than be with Oscar.
