IMO the shaman realised that what he actually wanted was the king. Im basing this on the scene where the king is drunk/delirious and the shaman looks like he’s taking advantage. Im guessing in that time period the shaman liked the attention and “worship” he got from the king and tried to covet him. The Messenger Him went back with a blank script I think to restart his life soley to see the king again (but I really dont get that).
The king obviously deserted the shaman because he wanted the love of his life to actually live and not be held down by his past demons. But when the shaman summoned him again im guessing he realised the shaman was more attached to him than he thought and was more than likely to take dangerous risks to see the king again.
