I don't know why people suddenly view them differently after reading the two stories. Even in the 1st story (Majo to neko) their personality and dynamics were the same. Natsume was just really violent and unhinged (even in this story, but it feels less daunting since it's from their POV) and they were willing to do everything and anything to save Keigo's father. That will and drive is also shown in this 2nd story, they're not clean people and they're both willing to kill, for Keigo as long as it's for his family and for Natsume it's as long as it's entertaining and if Keigo requested it. Unpopular opinion, I also didn't dislike them for doing what they did to Sudou and Juuichi cause honestly they were rough af but it's one of those doing the wrong thing for the right reason. He wasn't gonna kill Juiichi, knowing his character he was just going through the extremes just to save his family. Even till the end he wasn't as bad as the villains here in this story cause we see how humanized he still is when he came to know that his father isn't gonna make it. They were never the villain in that story so I never disliked them.
Having a glimpse of Catherine's character from that little exchange about her past with Lenguin and hair color, it kinda makes me imagine what kind of character Elincia should've been, lmao. The mother is lowkey funny and very carefree.

I feel like the director wants to make more stronger (lvl7+) ability users to have a better chance of winning and protecting the world form the attack, the classic doing the wrong thing for the right cause troupe. He also seems to want something in the abyss, most likely connected to the raksha they're preserving. A random guess is that they'll bring that angel like raksha back to the abyss to stop the other rakshas from going to their world, maybe it's what they want back. Orrrr maybe it's the first ever raksha that also told them of the "prophecy". It'd be wild if that's Han Maru's father. I'm not sure tho, just guessing, random guesses since I don't read the novel. I'm just so excited to read the revelations, I can't wait for it. Gosh.
