The real issue here is the parents, they’re placing a heavy burden on the oldest and completely writing out the youngest. I can really sympathize with both brothers as the oldest sister in a Hispanic household who excels and is so many things for my parents. I can really see my own home dynamic in this especially when our youngest struggles in school so she pushes herself with soccer. These two chapters hit hard and I’ve never related to a quote more, “My parents did love me but it was complicated.. Too vague to rebel against, but too heavy to live up to their expectations”
I can completely understand the older brother, especially cuz it seems like he has to succeed so his parents sacrifice isn’t worthless. It’s hard but younger kids don’t understand how the older ones try to protect them especially when the older one is still maturing as well.
Why am I finding this so attractive? The only thing that would upset me is the drugging but even then I probably would’ve forgave/ignored it/him too. He just has to be honest bc clearly she’s not scared about it.

So basically mom was married to this nut job who gave her HIV and wanted to give it to mc. Apparently he was pretty crazy so he got locked up in a mental hospital. Then people would talk bad about them and say they didn’t want their kids playing with mc bc they were afraid of their kids catching it. So Mc went home one day and yelled at his mom that he wished he was an orphan because no one wants to play with him. So then mc now thinks that she didn’t abandon him but he abandoned her.
Bro so you’re telling me you abandoned your only child because of something he said from anger? Mc was only 10 so of course he’d say stuff without knowing the weight of his words but you can’t take a child’s words seriously. He’s was child, come on now. I can understand her not reaching out after since she did abandon him so there’s complexities but ugh. I’m so upset that the mc thinks he abandoned her first like he was a child who was lonely and just wanted to play bro. That’s stupid and the mom was stupid.
