I think he's just being honest & realistic. It's true that it kinda hurt Yiyoung, but sometimes the truth really does hurt. It's not about they don't wanna be together forever, it's more like trying to face things in a realistic way if ever the time comes. Cuz sometimes its not always you & me against the world. That's how fcked up the world can be. I see this story in a realistic manner that's why i dont see anything wrong with how Director Kang explained it. He did say that he will try his best, he's not overconfident. So i think it's enough (actually good, there's not much of an ego issue) cuz he actually recognizes he's not perfect, but will try to be for Yiyoung. That alone actually means a lot.
i understand what you're saying, and i agree that realism and honesty are important in a relationship. however, we also have to consider their significant age difference and the impact of Mr. Kang's words on Mr. Ahn.

regardless of whether he's being 'real,' Kang still doubled down when apologizing. essentially saying, "oh, I know I hurt you with what I said; I could have said it better, but i'm just being honest." when we look at all of what he said, it’s a bit ehhhh.. while honesty is crucial, the way it's communicated is equally important. being brutally honest doesn’t necessarily make you a saint; in fact, it can come off as insensitive, causing people to distance themselves.
