Last chapter of novel or manhwa? In his own way he’s mentally ill too and what’s happening is low key Stockholm syndrome considering he’s in love with ML before he started stalking him.
Though in the start MC kind of put what was logical over his feelings but think about it, for a character like mc considering he’s a pushover, was a loner, and beside his blonde friend his teenage years was also spent talking and thinking about ML while being a sick person. So in this case, the Stockholm syndrome would be pretty intense for someone like him.
In this way you can think of it right now the character is likely experiencing; what is the right thing to do or what is this feeling. Aka what Stockholm syndrome goes through but in real life it’s more manic and they don’t reason with their love for the kidnapper but hey despite that this is all in all executed well and at least make sense and is stable.
