It seemed to me more of a parallel drawn showing that while the boss was pretty obsessed with Soohyun due to the Eunsung story and also at one point saying that Soohyun had good talent in this field, he was able to freely let go of him unlike the creepy old man obsessed with Eunsung. It didn't really feel like the boss was ever in love with Soohyun, but that's just my opinion, and i could be wrong too ^ ^
