There was a flashback about how the purple eyed chose the brown woman that has a familiar face as the mc over the emperor.
And because the emperor and purple eye were a thing, the sudden break up made him pretty angry. And because mc looks like the girl, the emperor tries to torture him in many ways.
And because purple eye feels drawn to mc, he tries to be nice to him which the emperor I guess misinterpretes.

Random perhaps spoiler I'm not 100% sure if this happens but I'm pretty sure purple eyes dies in battle and the whole rape and stuff get worse for red eyes before like he and the emperor guy or whatever also go to war and return successful or something. Sorry just didn't have anything to do so just leaving this here
