I have no love for Jonas but part of me wonders how much of his character is a by product of his upbringing vs his nature. A selfish mother who basically offered up her loyal maid to a duke to escape her birdcage. A supposed father who’s probably not all that interested in him as as a supposed child of his or even as a person in his household other than that his true love of a second wife loves her mistress’ child dearly. This all possibly leading to a highly permissive parenting style where step-mother is willing to give him anything and everything over her actual blood related son and a supposed father who only cares about what can make his second wife happy. I’d say no wonder he became like that, being told he’s grander than what he actually is and having everything done for him because of said status. Its still up to him to be a decent human being though at the end of the day, but I can’t totally say the previous generation weren’t responsible in some way as well.

So… a slight misunderstanding…but in a good way?? Shima thinks Mitsumi only liked him because of his kind front, but this also makes him want to become an even better person. Someone worthy of Mitsumi and hopefully be in a more suitable emotional and mental state to do so. Which is great, but that train of thought also belittles or diminishes his actual impact on Mitsumi and her adjusting to living the city life. He thinks she only liked him because of his facade and yes he may have been pretending or putting up a front on some occasions but even that doesn’t take away the impact, a tremendously positive one at that, that it had on Mitsumi. And I feel that this also speaks of his current insecurities, that imposter syndrome type of feeling he’s been having for most of his life. Hopefully, he realizes soon that parts of his facade, especially to his closer friends, are no longer a facade at that point. And to be honest, most friendships start off that way anyway. People being polite and friendly at first to make a good impression or keep things uncomplicated and its only when you start getting closer, knowing the other person more that you let go of such walls and being more yourself, and for him that just takes a long while.
