they really brushed over the part where he said hes poly huh

Luca came from a poly culture which is why it wasn't really a big deal to him. If he had been cheating or what, he wouldn't have had an qualms about dating those girls at Mako's school. I thought his stance then and after kind of showed his utter devotion to his boyfriend.
But then again that is just my opinion.

it took me the second reading of this to actually really understand ryohei's love and character, and I see others not understanding too so I'd just like to explain my analysis a bit to help you maybe understand. Although his love feels forced, it's most likely due to his inability to not only express his own feelings but understand his own feelings too as most of his expectations for relationships were to be fleeting and low standard. so meeting yuuma and coming to terms that what he felt before wasn't love probably made him more of a dick than he should've been, but nonetheless, by the end of it all I think he managed to understand how yuuma felt about him pretty damn well shown how he himself wanted some better communication with one another. which is something you generally don't do if you don't have some respect or like to the other person. Seeing his past, his form of love is just seemingly more mild than that of yuuma's, but for him its pretty damn intense.
