In the beginning there’s a whole “science” thing when Hen goes to the doctor to try and remove the mark, but I can’t remember what all that was .
The snake tribe, which both Ivan and Alek are part of, are very dominating and have hormones that they release that follow that trend. It seems that at a work party, Hen and Alek hooked up, most likely on purpose on Alek’s part to make Ivan jealous, but IMO he was also developing feelings for Hen, and Ivan walked in on them. Because of the already present phase ones from Alek and Hen, Ivan joined in instead of just getting mad like Alek thought he would. With the addition of Ivan’s snake hormones, all 3 went into a black out sex state. Alek did not know Hen was marked when he left. Once he saw that 1) Hen had the mark and 2) Ivan being with Hen hadn’t stabilized/removed the mark, Alek was able to deduce that he was the marker, not Ivan, since he was the only one who remembered that all 3 of them fucked, not just Hen and Ivan. Hen and Ivan are currently working with the hospital to find a way to remove it but the remedy wasn’t completed in time to stop Hen’s body from going into a shut down mode since he’s been so starved of the person who marked him.
I think the tribes in this are similar to ABO, and the pheromones work similar, and their 3some in the beginning was similar to a “heat” , or at least that’s how I’m reading it. I just don’t think they can make babies across tribes, or it’s not common.
It took Hen a while to genuinely like Ivan after they started hooking up.
I can’t remember what they said about the removal of the mark, but I don’t think you can remove it. I think it’s supposed to fade, but since the Hen hasn’t been around the person who made the mark in a romantic sense the mark has become unstable and it has made it hard to remove.

I think their relationship is debatable, but honestly I don't think Ryan had the same romantic feelings Christopher had for Ryan. When Ryan kissed Christopher's forehead, the scene was blurred from Ryan's POV which means he wasn't thinking or even seeing clearly, and he also did the same gesture with his sister. So Ryan's love for Christopher is most likely platonic
