I watched the anime of this and it was already too painful for me. It was like an open ended story so I was left to imagine what could have happened to ash and eiji. But I knew that he would die. I just knew he would even before I read this. This is a really great story overall. It left me so much pain and tears in my eyes but this is feels like the most appropriate ending for me. Although it does hurt a lot. I'm still crying while writing this btw
