From what I recall the world is nearly destroyed. The gates and monsters were actually just preparations the Monarchs made to turn Earth into a suitable battlegrounds for a war between them and the Angels. The powers people got as Awakeneds were from the Angels so that humans could protect their lives and survive to some extent after the world changed from all the magic and monsters. What they mean by everyone forgetting is that MC has the option to reverse time back to before gates ever started appearing. Then he fights against the monsters and the Monarchs by himself in another universe. Basically everything relating to the gates, monsters, the other Monarchs and Angels gets undone. The only thing is that stays the same is MC. He keeps his powers and almost all the Shadows. He himself wasn't literally forgotten just everything he did to save everyone and the changes the world went through is.
