Hosik dude u need to get your shit together just admit u got married to a dude like- bro Hosik has kids and is married just admit it why r u putting that example for your kids... idk I'm just really pissed off when characters do this (I'm projecting let me be) like its hard i understand like in front of a crowd and stuff, and like experiencing homophobia and stiff but literally u are not just married, u have kids... wtf r they gonna say to teachers when Hosik can't admit that he is married and have kids what, like hosik needs to be able to make an example and omfg so many writers just dismiss this because well i mean can't expect much from writers who are mainly hetero woman like they don't usually fix it because they don't think it's a big problem, they can sometimes but they just can't write it that well usually. Like this story is fluffy and cute, its not overly cringe, i wouldn't say its that realistic, probably not at all compared to actually representation written mlm books, but it doesn't show really any shit abt the actual experience of being gay. Like this is why i say yaoi (its literally just a term for bl books that have sex but its just fetishization of gay men, like who actually says that about gay books that have smut that's literally the title, not yaoi, and BL its like ehhhh, it depends really its a genre but its targeted towards woman who fetishize being gay, but there are some books that have actual rep and stuff) and BL are different from MLM its literally these are genres targetted to woman who like to read this shit (mind you i am a woman, but would i actually think og gay people this way? No tf, and do i say this is realistic shit and amazing or just a good romance story? It depends but mainly no. It's like wholesome the story but its really just hah... anyways i went on a rant because so man authors just dont think it's worth fixing, LITERALLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS TO OVERCOME WHEN UR GAY. Anyways most of these authors are hetero woman who sexualise, fetishize shit which is why most of these reps are shit, or none at all.

Its not only the fact hosik would be coming out but also the fact that he, as a man is able to get pregnant and had 2 kids, which in this world seems like a new thing and pregnant man are treated like some type of alienated creature. In the first chapters hosik rection to pregnant man seems to be the norm and later on when he had a big belly and some children questioned him about it

Absolutely amazing I love this story, it conveys the reality of being a queer person so well, the part I loved was that 'even in my queer community I feel left out' something like that, that was an amazing quote and I could relate so well, there's many aspects that makes me as a queer person feel seen.
You could tell easily that this isn't sexualised like of course many BLS, yaoi, or shounen Ai - majority always stereotypes them, but this one just makes queer people actual humans, and goodness you can tell this author is either queer or has a lot of experience with a queer person, quotes from here 'here I am chasing for a straight boy' I absolutely love this line, there is always, always something in the other stories that's like 'why am I doing this?' etc. Which basic anyways, this one though shows a gay person who already knows that they are gay, and are comfortable with it.
There's lines like this but, this one is so realistic, it shows how he is desperately going after someone, even though he knows that he won't like him back and knowing what pain that is - for the reason he is straight 'straight boy' this part here makes it a much higher level of realism, this is something queer people would say, not something a heterosexual person would think a gay person to say. Trust me there is a BIG difference, and this author knows it.

Okay so I'm up to 7 volume so my review so far it's good as a woman who obviously writes yaoi mangas remember I said bl not mlm so no it isn't realistic or sweet it can be look because there is a difference to a woman sexualising and writing yaoi and an author writing about 2 men who are in love with each other and not to mention the sa and like the sex is just sex and bro this is not fully consented sex so yes again sa so yeah as an old manga it can be good but like there are much better mangas nowadays which are created by women cause most women in Japan just write bl they don't support the gay stuff
bye this shit is so ass cause why is it always about "but were both guys!.." stfu
girl idk maybe cs gay rs arent always welcomed especially in asian culture. To top all of that hes a promising athlete whos career could be damaged by a scandal
That's obvious but I'm saying that it's overused in a lot of bls
Sorry I don't even know why I'm arguing the manhwa is only like a normal amount of good level for a bl (which is written by a woman who doesn't research stuff abt queer people you can def tell or is queer) cause this level is to be expected
Stfu. Publicly dating someone of the same sex is definitely nerve racking, simply because it’s just widely frowned upon. In this case it makes more sense because the ML has a bright future in basketball so naturally MC will worry about backlash he would get for dating someone of the same gender. “It’s written by a woman” I can one hundred percent guarantee that you yourself are a woman too. If you haven’t gone through shit like this then you wouldn’t understand why a lot of bls talk about this subject
Yes I am a woman and I she experienced that stuff and what I'm saying is that I understand but in every single trope it's over used you barely see any BLS where they are confident in their selves and the plot is well done like the ones that do have are not well represented, and omg did you even see what I was writing about as a woman? I was talking about a woman who doesn't understand queer things in like actually understand it or have experienced those things literally most of bl writers are homophobic in real life and they make this content because they don't give rep, they fetishise it and give no rep, and use it to make money of course.
Like I know it is widely frowned upon I've experienced it?? And j understand what you are taking about with his background and stuff but if you have truly read something gay that's not in the Bl/yaoi genre there is like that same kind of trope but again, it's realistic and well done, but it's not here because the person who wrote didn't research about it or have experienced that, or maybe they did but the didn't write it well
You didn't read the comments I said how it's overdone because as a queer person I accept myself, and yes I get the trope because it happens it's hard to accept that, I would like to see more stories of people who accept their identity and that isn't fetishised and actually has rep. Maybe you thought that I was saying how it is overused as in they should change it as I don't understand why they have it?? But if you didn't think that way then very nice but no it's still overused and I'll stand by it cause I have an unhealthy addiction of reading BLS and yaoi but I still know what the experience of being queer is like and that is not all of it, like there are so many ways to expand on that at least like being so much more complex, like someone who pretends that they are fine with being gay when truly they have like a very traumatic past with it so they have a lot of internalized homophobia and stuff you get my flow? So when I say someone write with again "but we're both guys" I'm sorry if it offended you or anyone but it's still overused and no actually it's fine to have it if it's at least some well, and thats why I said Idk why I'm bothering to argue because again the person who wrote this isn't even giving any queer rep, they don't actually understand it oor I mean they didn't even decide to be creative, and omg the manhwa is not even good literally a second after the ml forced himself on the mc??? So yeah this shit is ass
Oh I’m sorry are you a gay man living in Korea? Let’s not forgot it is not legal to get married to the same sex in Korea. People are KILLED all the time for this. The only time I see lines like “but we are both guys” are always (most of the time) when the BL takes place in a college/high school setting. Sooo you are probably just reading stories like this. This is real life stuff. Just because you “accept yourself” doesn’t mean you don’t fear for your safety and public image. I’m guessing you live in America, which is a pretty accepting country for us LGBTQ. Get off your high horse.
Yeah no Ur right for the top part and I know this is "real life" though most bl authors don't expand on it and so they write it unrealistic, and first of all you don't where I am from what I've been through?? And America is not even that safe anymore with Donald Trump??? Hello??
Why are people trying to assume my identity
Like I was yapping until later it's fine to have that kind of thing in it but I was saying how it should be done well and realistic but most bl authors can't like if you compare a mlm book or something to yaoi (yaoi is basically fetishisation of gay men) it would have it prob in that setting but done much better
Yaoi is not fetishizing gay men. Please look up the definition of a fetish. Plus you are likely a woman yourself and from your read history this is all you read. BL with “but we are both men” is very realistic as it is something gay men in many countries have to face and go through. Hiding their identity because they fear they might be kicked out, fired from their job or even killed. Stop complaining like this doesn’t happen.
I said it's basically bro omg I know the definition but yaoi has content that is sexualised, fetishised and shit like that there is a definition but bro how many gay guys say they read yaoi?? Compare that to women, yeah no it's basically fetishisation it is. Yaoi has smut and also the terms like seme, uke etc made from women who fetishise gay men having sex. Yeah no I said those things happen in real life and that's realistic but the things that is written isn't that realistic at all like this author could've expanded it, which is what I have been saying omg. I literally said it happens but this author doesn't expand on it and literally only used one line for it,. Yes I am a woman?? But I have real life experience?? Like I know the difference between yaoi bl and real life gay men what they are actually like.. like I would never associate yaoi with real life gay men... Literally how realistic and how much rep does this give if you compare it to a life gay men has. I read this yes, but I know the difference this is fetishisation, yaoi is literally bl with smut, and there terms inside it girls use to fetishise their fantasies on it let's be so fr. Many of gay men online don't like these things written by women who don't know jack shit because it is FETISHISATION content, it is fetishisation many of real life gay men say this
Okay you may be right about everything else but yaoi is mainly just fetishisation of gay ken, yaoi is a Japanese term and most of these "fujoshi" don't accept gay people in real life they just like to reading these stories that appeal to them. Most yaoi appeal to the women audience. This is just well known like I can guarantee you gay men do not read this shit that doesn't give them rep. It's like when U read Yuri made by men... Yeah... Most of it is fetishisation
..
Oh and yaoi was was also made by Japanese women
There are actually a ton of gay men who read this. Don’t know if you’re on BL side of TikTok but there are lots of male BL readers. Alex being the most popular. A lot of gay males actually don’t find this a problem. I’m queer and have a straight guy friend who only reads yuri. As long as you are not sexualizing real people there isn’t a problem. I myself have never seen a BL reader sexualize real gay men. If you are a woman who reads BL and true think BL readers fetishize this you are clearly calling yourself out. A fetish is a stronger sexual desire to a person or thing that you get turned on from.
Girl there are so many so readers who fetishise it they call themselves fujoshis you clearly haven't seen any that's for sure okay, you can quite literally find a lot of them online it's not like they will pop up wherever you live, go to the places that sell them in a shop that sells yaoi in Japan or something way more likely there. BRO yes you can be a guy and read Yur as long as you don't fetishise it, also that's not even what I said?? When a guy writes Yuri most of the time they fetishise it and yes there are male readers duh, but the work written of bl isn't giving any rep and like it's an audience of women written by women?? It's like saying hentai is made for guys by guys but it's not fetishization because the girls who watch don't have a problem with it? Because others do have a problem with it?? I also know that many gay guys have a problem with fushojis, tapis and stuff. Not every gay guy is fine with it, literally??? Your argument is saying oh I know that some people are okay with it that's why Ur argument is wrong!!!!! No. Many others are not okay with it, many yaoi whatsoever give no rep and they fetishise the content, and that's one of the biggest reasons many gay guys do have a problem with it but a lot of them are used to it which is why they don't care but does that mean it's okay? No. And there are many people which no you probably aren't on that side who knows that yaoi is fetishisation, and gives barely any rep. And most of the work that are cute and good are made by authors who are fujoshis or don't even accept it in real life, not even joking. So I used that fetishisation term and yes not all A LOT I didn't even say all you did not read what I said at all like please go fact check at least, like A LOT of bl readers called FUJOSHI fetishise this shit, how am I calling myself out. And yeah you don't see a lot of bl readers fetishise gay men, a lot of them aren't even fully accepting of gay men, like a lot of fujoshis right. Literally bro the Bl and yaoi being made is being made by countries that don't have a lot of gay rep or events or activities, and yeah it's literally illegal to marry gay in these places and these women who write it are even less educated on the topics so they write stories about people and they don't give rep, it's like watching someone who has no idea of culture in another race and write abt them.
Like for real please actually read what I wrote, quote I wrote, tell me how you that from what I said because I don't understand where you are getting these ideas from cause me calling myself out is bullshit I know a bunch of others who use that term because it is true, literally just compare this work to a book that is mlm preferable wrote by a man because I mean many straight homophobic men's pride is too high to write something like that. I 100% guarantee that there will rep in there it will be so much better than yaoi, maybe not all but like 90% of books are, like this one, gives you no rep whatsoever actually I haven't seen any smut in it so I'm not sure if it's yaoi or bl
You wrote a lot of nothing and sorry but I’m reading all that BS. If you are a woman reading BL yourself and say women who read it are fetishizing it you are simply calling yourself out. If you read BL as a woman and don’t fetish gay men you are fine. If you are a man who read yuri and don’t fetish gay women you are fine. People are too sensitive these days.
oh this comment section is so wild is it okay if i i step in and provide an answer for the actual og comment. so okay in a lot of cases i do 1000% agree because the But We’re Both Boys! is overplayed & doesn’t often dig into the nuance of why that may be an issue, it’s just internalised homophobia for the sake of it without getting into it (and more than anything it just often exposes the author’s own biases / core homophobia).
but in jiwon’s case he’s overcompensating & doesn’t actually believe that his being gay is gross or anything he’s just overly paranoid about how others would react to the fact and is worried about jungwoo catching on to his feelings so he lies about his actual thoughts / feelings on the subject to overcompensate. he doesn’t think there’s an issue with two men being together, and he accepted his being gay pretty easily! he’s just paranoid about how society would react to two men being together especially as someone constantly in the spotlight.
Ball (at least the novel) does actually address the topic of coming out and how hard it is to be taken seriously as a LGBT person in a way that i as an LGBT person myself personally found pretty well handled / surprisingly nuanced for a BL novel!
Just go man just go
Yeah no your right that makes sense
You just disregarded everything I said, didn't even read what I actually said like obviously what your saying is fine like people reading shit is fine but that's not even what I said like bruh.. go do debating bro you will learn something
(๑•ㅂ•)و✧ happy to provide further context / make sense out of things! i really like the novel so i wanted to provide some more elaboration on the MC’s thought processes based on it. jiwon is really paranoid & anxious and that bleeds into how he interacts with others and especially jungwoo a lot.
(for a mildly related note i ended up reading the entire thread before leaving my first comment and i do very much agree with you on the fetishisation rampant within this genre as well. want to make note of that because i don’t know why the other commenter is being so hostile over BL of all things but. ^^;;)
Yeah thanks for clarifying it really helps :D
I think if you want a bl that doesn't have this 'overused' real life issue you are better off reading western gay comics etc.
Unfortunately this is Korean so it isn't oversued its that it is actually the case and two people being happy and open to everyone about their relationship is just not realistic and most authors write things based of the experience of their country.
Yeah I've seen it used so many times but just because it is used doesn't mean it is written properly it's like slapping a girl and claims they are a feminist in a book without actually properly describing what a feminist is, okay this analogy kinda shit but there's prob tons better you can find. I read more manga and it has like so many kind of stuff about being queer and homophobia and society and shit and they are done pretty well. I haven't read this is a while so yah me probably when reading it didn't think they were portraying well maybe? Or the way they formatted it like created it with the artist was very generic like not in depth I guess? Overused anyways that's the word, doesn't have any artistic creativity. Look I like reading about that stuff obviously but like a lot Korean artists/ artstyles that are popular and very generic, and they stick to one format which is why is why it is generic/ overused that's how I saw it at least, because a comic is both art and like words right but art is the main thing. Someone said the novel portrayed this very well which is nice, but personally and probably objectively this manhwa doesn't cut the line for like showing that fear of society judgement very well, like it's mid not like amazing. I haven't read the rest so maybe they did it better maybe, maybe not.
Also western comics have a lot of book about homophobia, and dare I say, a lot of it is written more realistically and in depth, because of the fact that the main people who write it are queer, while Asian BL, usually are not written well because people are not informed or educated, and also blame the publishers for being so old fashioned and not letting the creators get their work out. This as well the publishers in Western countries are very much up to date usually because they are more accepting of queer people way before most Asian countries, so those queer books which are realistic get published.
Also maybe the reason I didn't like this series is because one is a twink and the other a big ass muscle guy (stereotypes again sigh...), so yes I do and I will read western and Asian comics because I decide what I read and I will read Asian ones because I do like the art and stories, and the western ones because many of them are more realistic and can definitely give you more insight on a gay person's life and the homophobia they face, rather than most of Asian comics.
People living in western countries still face homophobia btw... Sure the laws are up to date and more accepting now and more awareness has been raised and that is amazing but again there are still conservatives and homophobic people...
