Though it looked so forced to see a romantic scene because he didn't have anything to that girl before, but he was thinking of who should he be spending his time and doing something an ordinary person would do for fun, is I think a subtle diversion from his anxiety especially he admitted he doesn't feel the presence of his enemy or even know the extent of that gate. His life has been a mess from the beginning, he forced himself to work for his family even though he is weak, he was the parent figure for his little sister in the absence of his parents, I think he deserves a little break and just chill and unwind. It's like a calm before the storm, because we all know that gate is enormous and who knows maybe it do a massive damage on our mc.
This scene reminds me of the time Shingo runs away and Kagami jumps from his apparent and ends up picking Shingo in a box.
