I GET IT NOW! I just realized after rereading the chapters. Cassian cheated on Raelle numerous of times to try and protect her. His way of protecting her was shitty and twisted but his father, did repeatedly say. “Do not create weaknesses.”
Since Cassian loved Raelle so much, she’s a literal weakness for him. And so he cheated on her on multiple occasions and times to make it seem that she’s not THAT IMPORTANT TO HIM.
That’s his way of protecting her from his father and probably to everyone. I am rationalizing this situation but I DO NOT APPROVE him cheating on her.
To support my theory, it was that time when Raelle broke up him. And he said “I only wanted to protect you” or sth along those lines.
