Yes the duke came instead of Wright because he is busy, then the Duke asked why cant he be the one, Ripley rebuked him about how Wright is the better choice than the duke, (coz one of the reasons is she want to pair her friend, Etoile with sir Wright) then here , because of that slight comment, i think the duke kinda irritated and jealous.
