Just because we can understand the plot doesn't mean that it's not messy. The timeline/universe has not been properly set up, character motivations haven't been established, and it's genuinely hard to figure out how some characters feel about other characters because the plot is progressing too fast. None of the characters are particularly likeable because there hasn't been any opportunity to get to know them outside of exposition.
I kinda follow the plot just fine with my struggling brain cells. I understand the translation perfectly well also. And, just like you said, the story is progressing too fast for my liking. And only around the later chapters did I realize Nocton's feelings kinda cleared up some of the questions I had from the earlier chapters. I'm still trying to feel out the other characters as well since I feel like I haven't really "bonded" with them?
